Candle Care 101 - Why Soy Wax For Candle Making

Candle Care 101 - Why Soy Wax For Candle Making

At Selfmade Candle we use Soy Wax and here's why.

  1. Soy wax is natural. Soy wax is a product from hydrogenated soybean oil. Soybeans are grown in soil and therefore 100% natural and renewable.
  2. Soy wax wax is more eco-friendly than Paraffin wax. Paraffin wax is known to give off harmful fuels to the environment so whilst it may be cheaper to buy a paraffin wax candle, you'll see the cost in the environment.
  3. Soy wax has a more authentic look when melted. This is due to the natural makeup of the wax itself. It's very vintage looking. After all, nothing in life is perfect and we're all about making real things for real people.
  4. Soy wax is relatively easy to clean. In comparison to other waxes, soy wax can be broken down by hot soapy water. This makes it easier to clean when you want to reuse your candle jar or if you've had a bit of a spill. But don't forget, it's still wax. If you're pouring a tonne of soy wax (even dissolved in water) down your drain, at some point along its journey it will harden again.

There are lots of other great natural candle waxes out there including Coconut and Rapeseed so who knows, there may be a Selfmade Candle featuring those waxes coming soon...
